So I was in Seattle with the man over the weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We saw many kewl things in Seattle: Alki beach, the aquarium (fish rock!), Pike Place Market, a handful of amazing restaurants and our hotel was frickin’ amazing, our room was right over the ocean.
However, one thing I could not help but notice is that Americans don’t jaywalk, what’s up with that? Is it a fear of god? Is it simple obedience? I don’t get it. Every time traffic cleared my fellow Canadians and I boldly strutted across the street even though the orange hand was up while the Americans waited patiently and even tsk’ed at us. And who says Americans are impatient?

i think you are confused. all the people you saw NOT jaywalking in seattle are the visiting canadians. you are probably the ONLY canadian who jaywalks. -mag
Canadians are known for jaywalking, ever been to Montreal? I have heard this comment from many other traveling Canadians but never noticed it before in places like NYC, only in Seattle and Victoria...smaller places where traffic is steady but not crazy.
The Canadian tourists are easy to pick out in Seattle b/c it is non-stop Vancouver vs. Seattle running commentary and how things are 'back home'. never noticed it in NYC as it was too insane there.
canucks really are known for jaywalking. brits always ask me what the deal is. 'what IS jaywalking? why do you always do it? do you get in trouble by the police for it?' it's really a joke now.
